Carol White, designer and owner at CW Designs, has been creating jewelry for over 25 years. She started her journey in designing with beads, but quickly realized there was so much more. This thing called “metal clay” caught her attention and she became certified in PMC ( a brand of fine silver metal clay) in 2008 and hasn’t looked back. Looking for even more ways to create unique, one of a kind jewelry, she also took traditional metalsmithing classes. Her pieces utilize one of these two techniques, always with a focus on metal. While there may be gemstones or other stones incorporated into her pieces, the focus remains on metal.
This class is an introduction to metal clay, learning the basics of what you can do to manipulate it in the clay or what is called the wet state, and refining in the dry state. Once fired in a kiln (or torch fired for certain brands of fine silver clay), you are left with solid metal.
Learn the basics of metal clay and make your own jewelry (earrings and pendants). All pieces will be made in fine silver – .999 silver. You will be able to complete a pendant and a pair of earrings, possibly more based upon the size of your pieces. Carol will fire your pieces in her kiln and return them to our studio for pick up a week after the class.
